It is said that the diamond is one of the most counterfeited gems, so naturally the question may arise, how to distinguish a real diamond from a fake one?
To ensure the authenticity of gems, many of them are sold with certificates of authenticity. It is the quality parameters of the diamond marked in the certificate that determine its value. However, these parameters do not appear out of nowhere - they are determined during the certification of diamonds, and only an experienced gemologist can check, distinguish and recognize a real diamond.
The most well-known and internationally recognized independent laboratories that evaluate and certify brilliants are:
Gemological Institute Of America - GIA. American Gem Society - AGS. HRD Antwerp. International Gemological Institute (in different parts of the world) - IGI.
How to choose a diamond? Each of these laboratories provides diamond certificates confirming the authenticity of the diamond, quality parameters and other things that are checked during the diamond certification. Certified diamonds are always sold with a certificate issued by one of these laboratories. An identification number is laser-engraved on the face of the diamond, which can be checked by magnifying the diamond with a magnifying glass or microscope. All of this aids in identifying and distinguishing a genuine diamond from a fake. Despite the fact that laboratories measure the same parameters, each has its own measurement procedures and standards. Colour is denoted by letters in GIA and other laboratories, and by digits in AGS. Diamonds having noticeable imperfections are designated as I (included) by GIA and P (imperfect) by HRD. A diamond with certificates tells the customer that the stone is genuine and precious. Without certificates, the buyer has no way of knowing the true worth of the diamond.
When buying diamonds, you have every right to ask for a certificate, as this is the main thing that helps distinguish and identify a diamond. All products with diamonds sold by One More Diamond are certified by the laboratories of the Assay Chamber, and certain products additionally have diamond quality certificates issued by international laboratory experts.
